If I Were the Baseball Commissioner:

I thought about writing an entry on the meaning of sin, but I couldn't quite bring myself to do that on a Monday morning.   We'll get to that later.

If I were baseball commissioner, I've already said that I'd give home field advantage in the World Series to the team with the best regular season record.

If I were baseball commissioner, I'd do away with the designated hitter.

If I were baseball commissioner, I'd do away with the wild card--even though I realize that's the only way my Braves will get in the play-offs this year.  I'd divide the leagues into four four-team divisions like the NFL has done.  (Yes, I know, that would necessitate adding two more teams, but that will happen sooner or later, anyway.)  I'd probably keep the schedule slightly unbalanced, so that a team would still play more games with teams in its division.  And if I were baseball commissioner, in order to facilitate the new divisions, I'd probably do away with inter-league play.

What do you think so far?  Are you ready to let me replace Bud Selig?

God Bless You, Daniel! President, yes; Supreme Court Justice, without a doubt. Heck, I would not mind if they just make you King. But Baseball Commish - nope. Aren't you tired of the automatic outs from 8th and 9th place hitters? Just get a couple of men on base and you think there might be a rally, then some .198 catcher and the pitcher come up. Time for another nap. If it were up to me, I'd experiment with two DHs. And we need to EXPAND the playoffs, not reduce them. The more teams in it in September the better for all, especially bloggers. And that would make managers and general managers really have to think, instead of the "high intellectualism" of the tired old double switch. Run for President, Daniel, and I'll slap your bumper sticker on my car in an instant. Become Baseball Commissioner and I'll become a real hockey fan. Don Van Dyke, Lake City, MI.

Chuckle....I'd think someone from Michigan (your previous commentator) was already a real hockey fan. LOL.
Anyway, given I'm a Mariners and Blue Jays fan, I don't mind the DH, however, having said that...if they got rid of it, would that prompt pitchers to actually take batting practise?? Why ought not a pitcher know how to hit? It's a given they don't hit, which is a shame. If I were a pitcher I'd think it a matter of honour to know how to hit!! But what do I know...I'm a rabid hockey fan!

The Braves are my team too. They haven't hit the World Series in years but they will always be my team. I have quite a few autographed Braves cards from when I lived in GA. Kenny Rogers with the Detroit Tigers cheating in game 2 of the World Series and nothing being done about it really upset me. He should have been removed from the series!
